Writing

I didn’t always consider myself a writer, but eventually it became something I couldn’t ignore.

I was always a little obsessed with words. Choosing the right one, with the exact definition I needed. I relished in the advent of Instant Messages and texts, able to say what I wanted to say without having to say it out loud.

During college, I got an email offering me to take a course to become a Peer Reader at the Writing Center. It wasn’t a job that I had been previously aware of, but immediately knew it was something worth pursuing. I spent a couple years working part-time at the center, helping other students to flesh out their own ideas, in a variety of disciplines. My favorite sessions were when the student hadn’t written a single word, but we were able to spend the session brainstorming for their project, so that they would have direction next time they sat down at their keyboard.

I spent several years after undergrad trying to find my footing in the corporate setting, hoping to find a role that tapped in to my creative skills. In several jobs, my most consistent positive feedback was on my emails, and the clarity of communication between myself and partner teams.

In a fit of desperation during the Summer of 2022, in hopes to pivot my career in a communication and creatively focused role, I decided to continue my education in Writing Studies at Saint Joseph’s University. It’s given me the opportunity to explore new avenues of expressing myself, and participate in the workshopping process.

I look forward to helping you with your writing, too.
